How Electronic Device Works ?

Electronic device works using electricity as an energy source to perform its functions. In general, the most basic things of electricity are voltage, current and resistance, in fact there are many more concepts of electrical properties. But for the moment will be discussed about the voltage, current, and resistance.

  • Voltage is the difference in electrical potential between two points in the electrical circuit, and expressed in Volt (V). Current
  • Current is the amount of electric charge caused by the movement of electrons, flows through a point in the electrical circuit per unit of time. The unit of current is ampere (A).
  • Resistor is the value of the resistance possessed by a particular material. Resistors are related to voltage and current. The unit of resistor is Ohm (Ω).
So how electronic device works? Electronic device works by utilizing existing electronic components to convert the energy that electrons acquire into signals or other forms of energy such as light waves.
For example, remote control. Remote control can be classified into two, namely infra red remote control and radio frequency remote control.

Infrared remote control used for television, air conditioning unit, DVD player, etc. Infrared remote control generates the infrared wave captured by the receiver. Receiver unit is then process information from the remote control.
The working principle of infrared remote control can be explained in the simple chart below.

From the simple graphics above, infrared remote control consists of power supply (batteries), Integrated Circuit (IC) and transmitter LED (Light Emitting Diode).
Power supply provides DC electrical energy (Direct Current) which will be converted into infrared wave by infrared remote control.

The power supply will supply power to the bulb circuit board one of the buttons on the remote control is pressed.
Once the button is pressed, electricity is supplied to the IC. The IC will process the received power according to the circuit configuration associated with the key. Next the processed electrical signal from the IC is transferred to the Transmitter LED.
Transmitter LED will convert received electrical signal into infrared wave. The characteristics of the infrared wave depend on the input of the IC.
Then the infrared wave will be received by the receiver unit and then process the signal according to its command.
From the brief explanation above can be concluded electronic device works by utilizing electric energy used to be converted into other energy form. Another form of energy altered in this case is the infrared light wave. We can see in electronic devices that we encounter everyday such as, mobile phone, television, electric guitar, and others. Other forms of energy that we can control or arranged according to our wishes with the help of electronic components on electronic devices such as Integrated Circuit, resistors, diodes, transistors, capacitors and others.
This is where the art of electronics engineering where we make things we want by knowing the existing concepts of electronic components.
